Summer Pharmacy Intern

Job Summary

Supports the pharmacy team by assisting in the processing of prescriptions, engaging with customers, and learning pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Gains hands-on experience in delivering pharmacy services and learns policies, procedures, and best practices necessary for a future pharmacist role.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers and offers assistance with products and services.
• Resolves customer inquiries and promotes a positive customer experience.
• Shares and models customer service best practices with the pharmacy team.
• Assists pharmacists in processing prescriptions in accordance with company policies and state regulations.
• Supports delivery of healthcare services such as blood pressure screenings and medication therapy management within the scope of practice.
• Registers related sales, handles transactions, and assists customers with OTC product selection.
• Handles non-clinical telephone calls and communicates with physicians as appropriate.
• Participates in pharmacy inventory management, including receiving, storing, and reconciling shipments.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy department.
• Reports prescription errors to the pharmacist and adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policies.
• Completes assigned tasks and special assignments as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must be currently enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Preferred: Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Preferred: Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Preferred: Strong math skills for accurate prescription preparation.
